An evening of spontaneous entertainment from installation artists including guest performers Emily Bastian, Chococat, DJs, fashion show, cabaret and art throughout the night inspired by Japanese pop / culture, cosplay and spontaneous art.

Obsessive Classification Disorder

Join us to explore the power of symbols within communication, and collectively compose a musical score. Help guide a trio of musicians in a performance of a kind you have never heard before.

On Friday night we take your words, convert them into symbols, hand them to our musicians and make sweet music together.

On Saturday we take your words, convert them into symbols, hand them to The Librarian and make the books that will change how you interact with the world.

At close of business on Saturday, our Librarian will send several books out on a 13 week journey to help the world reconnect with the intuitive basis of language and interaction.

An afternoon of talks on Friday afternoon (24th Sept) around the theme of Renewal & Strategy to Destroy and Rebuild; presented by some of the most respected contemporary artists and designers around, including:

Talks start at 1.30pm, each speaker will have 20 minutes before opening up to a debate. As tickets will be sold on a first come first serve basis arrive by 1pm to avoid disappointment.

The ADF are delighted to announce further details of their afternoon of short presentations, ideas and debates this coming Friday 23rd September. Running between 1pm and 5pm key guest speakers include Peter Kennard, Adrian Shaughnessy, Stewart Semple, Johathan Barnbrook, Neville Brody and others to be announced. Tickets will be available from the ADF space at 28 Redchurch Street from Wednesday onwards, or on the door – priced £30.00 per ticket / £25.00 for concessions (Students – with valid photo ID). For further information please check the ADF blog where a more detailed programme will be made available as soon as possible.

Anti-Matters, curated by Richard Thomas (Resonance FM)
An evening of talks about negation, negative space, negative aesthetics, trash culture and anti-matter, including:
SHREDS – Stewart Home discusses anti-art, auto-destructive art and shreds books in an homage to John Latham.
The Psychoanalysis of Trash – Ken Hollings gives a lecture on how Ludwig II of Bavaria and Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley and Big Daddy Roth, Morris Lapidus and Kenneth Anger can never be recycled
Sewer Side – Anthropologist and broadcaster Bruno Rinvolucri (University of Oxford) has spent the last two years exploring London’s sewer system, a subterranean negative space if ever there was one.
Destruction and Negative Space – Curator Mathieu Copeland discusses auto-destructive art, and art and voids.
Anti-Matter – Dr.Ed Gerstner, physicist and the editor of Nature Physics magazine discusses particle physics and matter and its opposite, anti-matter.

Subverting belief – an evening of performance curated by Cecilia Wee including:

Bill Thompson discusses digitization and giving the enlightenment another 500 years
Steven Ounanian performs audience experiments about belief
Ryan Jordan presents Sensory Response Systems – immersing, hypnotic, and sometimes hallucinatory noise performance

The Anti Design Festival are pleased to announce Mestakes and Manifestos (M&M!), curated by Daniel Charny, which echoes the ADF’s call to shake off bad habits, to refresh and engage, be awake and active. Presenting a series of works and activities pulled together to excite conversation, the M&M! space is an invitation to think, make and talk about design.

Manifestos are calls to action, inciting response, setting principles and direction, responding to the past and conceiving the future, proudly declared and highly desirable to those who create them. They are briefs. Mistakes on the other hand are unwanted results. Together they hold the creative process from opposing sides. Both, undeniably, are sources for new creative directions. And like parenthesis they contain only the sides.

Running for the first four days on the ADF (18th to 21st September 2010), the M&M! space will be an open programme of selected exhibits and some scheduled events. Among these will be performance artist Giles Ripley’s self help film I’m a Winner (Why Aren’t You!!!); Social interventions designer Hwang Kim’s short film series Star Pizza; people will be able to sit on Cut up Benches by David Amar; see material and gesture experiments in Archive by Maker Therese Morch; experience Speed Creating an ambitious project by designer Dominic Wilcox; hear a talk by anti designer Jerszy Seymour entitled A New World Adventurers Guide (Saturday 18th September 16.00pm); and listen to other manifesto readings which will be megaphoned from a new take on the speakers corner by designer Alon Meron.

A manifesto wall, Open Spike, by designer Martino Gamper will accumulatively display both commissioned and open submission manifestos, and will be vying for attention with The Fabrats, led by Stu Bannocks, who will be making low tech rapid prototypes to test out the ideas. Guesting Master Makers who will join The Fabrats, and be setting some the agendas, include Matt Jones of Berg. Surprise manifesto readers will be taking part throughout the days.

At best we expect [ M&M! ] to be a lively scene of investigation offering new directions, in the least an alternative to well rehearsed design and at worst another trendy hyped up London show.

Research Studios are doing a one-day workshop at the Anti Design Festival and are looking for poster submissions to feature as part of an interactive floor-to-ceiling poster wall in a large workshop space.

The ANTI DESIGN FESTIVAL is looking for volunteers, helpers and auxiliaries!

We are looking for people who want to be involved in London’s most anticipated art and design event, the first of its kind.

The festival will be taking place all over Redchurch Street in Shoreditch, plus KK outlet in Hoxton, Puyne Shurvell Gallery, Aubin Gallery, amongst others.

To make this huge event possible we are looking for volunteers to help with staffing the events: With supervising the spaces, being on the door, flogging booze at the bar, possibly helping to install the installations, etc.

In return for your valuable time these things will happen:

You will be a fundamental part of this monumental festival
You will be working with a wonderful array of people
Its going to be a great CV-worthy experience!
You will have an amazing time.
